Statement of Faith

The Bible

We believe the Bible was written by men who were divinely inspired of God, and is the complete and final revelation of the will of God for man; and its contents are preserved without error.  We believe the Bible reveals the principles by which God will judge us and therefore is, and shall remain to the end of this world, the sole authority for faith and practice; and thus it is the true center of Christian unity and the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creed and opinions should be tried.

Psalm 12:6,7, 119:89; Isaiah 8:20; Ephesians 6:17; 2 Timothy 3:16,17; 1 Peter 1:2,

2 Peter 1:19-21

We use only the King James Version

We believe there is only one true and living God, an infinite, intelligent Spirit, the creator and supreme ruler of Heaven and earth completely holy and worthy of all possible honor, confidence and love. That in the unity of the Godhead there are three persons- the Father, the son, and the Holy Spirit: co-equal in every divine perfection and each executing distinct but harmonious offices in the great work of redemption.

Genesis 17:1, Exodus 20:23, Psalm 83:18, Matthew 28:19, Mark 12:30, John 5:23; 10:30, Romans 11:33, 2 Corinthians 13:14, Ephesians 2:18

The Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit is a divine person, co-equal with God the father and God the Son and of the same nature; that He was active in the creation and His relation to the unbelieving world. He restrains the Devil until God’s purpose is fulfilled.  He convicts the world of sin, of judgment, and of righteousness.  He bears witness to the Truth of the Gospel in preaching and testimony.  He is the agent of the New Birth.  He seals, endues, guides, teaches, witnesses, sanctifies, and helps the believer. Every born again believer is  baptized with the Holy Spirit by the Lord Jesus Christ into His body at the moment of conversion.  The evidence of this baptism is a willingness to live for the Lord Jesus Christ and that tongues of any kind are NOT evidence of this baptism.

Matt 28:19; Luke 1:35, 3:16; John 3:5-6; 14:16-17,26; Acts 11:6; Romans 8:14-16,26,27; Ephesians 1:13,14; 2 Timothy 2:7,13

The Devil/Satan

We believe Satan was once holy, but through pride and his ambition to be as God, fell and drew after him a host of angels.  He is now the prince of the power of the air and the unholy god of this world.  We believe Satan is man’s greatest tempter, the enemy of God and of Christ, the accuser of the saints, the author of all false religions, the chief author of all apostasy, the lord of the anti-christ, and the author of all ungodliness and darkness.  He is destined to a final defeat at the hands of Jesus Christ and to a judgment of an eternal hell.

Isaiah 14:12-15; Exodus 28:14-17; Matthew 4:1-3,13-39; John 14:30; Ephesians 2:2; 1 Thessalonians 3:5; 2 Thessalonians 2:8-11; 1 Peter 5:8;

2 Peter 2:4; Jude 6; Revelation 20:1-3,10

We believe the Genesis account of creation, and that is is to be accepted literally, and not allegorically or figuratively.  We believe man was created after God’s likeness. The creation of man was not a matter of evolutionary change of  kind, or development through different periods of time form lower to higher forms of life.  All animals and vegetation was made directly by God and by God’s established law should bring forth only after their kind.

Genesis 1:1,11,21-24,36,27; Nehemiah 9:6; Jeremiah 10:12; John 1:3; Acts 17;23-26; Colossians 1:16-17; Hebrews 11:9; Revelation 10:6

The Virgin Birth

We believe jesus Christ was begotten the Holy Ghost, by a miracle God, born of Mary, a virgin, as no other man was ever born or can ever be born of woman; thus He is the perfect, sinless Son of God.  Genesis 3:15, Psalm 2:7, Isaiah 7:14, Matthew1:18-25, Mark 1:1, Luke 1:35, John 1:14,

1 Corinthians 15:47, Galatians 4:4, 1 John 5:20

We believe the salvation of sinners is by grace through faith through the sole mediator Jesus Christ the Son of God. Who by appointment of the Father, freely took upon Himself our nature, and yet without sin; he honored the divine law of God by His personal obedience.  By his death He made full atonement for our sins.  Having been raised from the dead is now enthroned in Heaven and is in every way, a qualified, compassionate and all sufficient Saviour.  We believe that this blessing of salvation is made free to all by the Gospel.  It is the immediate duty of all to accept them by a sincere, penitent, and obedient faith.   Nothing prevents the salvation of the greatest sinner on earth but his own inherent depravity and voluntary rejection of the Gospel.  Isaiah 53:4,5, John 3:16, Ephesians 2:8, Philemon 2:16,17, Colosains 2:9, 1 Timothy 2:5, Hebrews 2:18; 7:25, Isaiah 55:1, Matthew 11:20-24, John 3:19; 5:40, Romans 2:4-6; 16:25-26

We believe the great Gospel blessing Christ assures to such as believe in Him is justification, which included the pardon of sin, and the gift of eternal life on principles of righteousness that is bestowed not in consideration of any works of righteousness which we have done, but solely through faith in Christ’s blood in His righteousness imputed unto us.

Isaiah 53:11;  Zechariah 13:1; Acts 13:39; Romans 1:17, 4:1-8, 5:1,2,9, Galatians 3:11; Titus 3:5-7; Hebrews 10:3-8

The Church

We believe a true New Testament church is a congregation of baptized believers associated by a covenant of faith and fellowship of the Gospel observing the ordinances of Christ, governed by His laws, and exercising the gifts and privileges invested in them by His Word.  The only scriptural officers are pastors and elders and deacons whose qualifications and duties are clearly defines in the Scriptures.  We believe that the true mission of the church is the Great Commission: to make disciples by evangelizing the lost and edifying the saints.  We believe the local church has the absolute right of self-government, free from the interference  of any hierarchy of individuals or organizations.  The one and only superintendent of the church is Christ through the Holy Spirit.  It is scriptural for true churches to co-operate with each other in contending for the faith and for furtherance of the Gospel.  Every church is the sole and only judge of the measure and method of its co-operation on all matters of membership, policy, government, discipline, and benevolence.

Matthew 28:19-20;  Acts 2:41-42, 6:5, 14:23; 15:22-23, 20:17-28; 1 Corinthians 5:11-13, 6:1-3, 11:2, 12:4,8-11,28-31, 16:1-2; 2 Corinthians 8:23-24; Ephesians 1:22-23; 4:11, 5:23-24; Colossians 1:18; 1 Timothy 3:1-13; 1 Peter 5:1-4; Jude 3,4

We believe the Lord Jesus Christ gave the church the ordinance of baptism.  Baptism is the immersion of the believer in water in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit by the authority of the local church to show forth the beautiful emblem of our faith in the crucified, buried, and risen Saviour with its effect in our death to sin and resurrection to a new life.  This scriptural baptism is a prerequisite to being accepted as a member of Victory Baptist Temple.

Matthew3:6,16; 28:19-20; John 3:23; Acts 2:41-42; 8:36-39; Romans 6:3-5

The Resurrection and the Return of Christ

We believe and accept the scriptural accounts how that Jesus died, was buried and on the third day arose bodily from the grave. We believe that after he showed himself to many through infallible proofs, he ascended into Heaven.  At that time, it was promised that this same Jesus will return again just as he went into Heaven.

Matthew 28:6-7; Mark 16:6; Luke 24:2-7,39;  John 14:1-3, 20:27; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Corinthians 15:3-6,

1 Thessalonians 1:10; Revelation 20:6

We believe that the Great Commission is to take the Gospel to the entire world. It is clear and unmistakable and that this commission was given to every christian.
